The Philadelphia Sixers addressed a major need by acquiring
Jason Kapono from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for
Reggie Evans. In terms of overall talent Philly gets the nod in this swap, because the trio of
Andre Igoudala,
Willie Green and
Lou Williams didn’t shoot over 32 percent from distance last season.
What the trade means for Toronto
The Raptors needed toughness inside especially with Shawn Marion likely out the door in free agency. One thing Evans provides if nothing else is rebounding. He grabbed 4.3 boards in 14 minutes this past season. Evans once averaged 9 boards in only 23 minutes per game back in 2005, so he’s no slouch when it comes to glass cleaning.
What the trade means for Philly
You have to like how the offseason has started for Philly. First they secure the services of Eddie Jordan, a proven coach with playoff appearances under his belt and now they bring in a sharpshooter that immediately creates some floor space for
Elton Brand in the post. Expect Kapono to play around 20-25 minutes per game and there is no reason why he shouldn’t be able to break the double digit scoring threshold.
